Student Loan Assistance

September 13, 2018

Studies show that 70% of college students  are paying off student loans. The average amount of student debt is $37,000. Now the good news is, some of those folks are getting help from an unexpected source. On this edition of MoneyWise, Rob West and Steve Moore discuss how many employers are now offering student loan assistance to their workers.

Then, they answer your questions at (800) 525-7000 and questions@moneywise.org about the following:

  • If you contribute to a 401(k) but hear everyone talking about investing elsewhere, should you branch out investing or just concentrate on your 401(k)?
  • If you have a variable rate mortgage with 15 years left on it and you've noticed the rate is creeping up, should you refinance?
  • If you work with a financial manager who is pushing you to roll $100,000 from your 401(k) into an annuity, what should you do?
  • If you just graduated from college and your parents are suggesting that you purchase a condo, should you wait until you have the down payment?
